Excel will be a valuable tool for me as a future teacher. Assuming I am a middle school math teacher, I can create surveys on Excel for my students to take about how they thought an exam was, what I can do better/what they like about my teaching, etc. Surveys are a great tool that can be used to see how your students evaluate you and your performance, as well as how helpful you have been to them throughout the school year.
I can also make graphs, charts, etc. to help my students understand the curriculum being taught for that particular lesson. In addition to that, Excel is a great tool to help teachers efficiently report/post grades.
With all of the codes and formulas such as average, maximum, minimum, etc. Excel not only reduces the amount of time it takes to post creates and calculate averages, but it also allows for teachers to do it in a way more organized way than they have previously went about calculating/entering grades.
When it comes to reviewing my classmates blogs, in general all the topics stood out and resonated with me. I found it more interesting to see what they had to say about the same things I was writing about, because they have been apart of my personal learning network and they have different interpretations of the things we have learned.
For example, I found everyone's ILP's really interesting, because we all decided to take them and make them into our own, and it opens me up to seeing new ways of doing things, and possibly trying them out on my own. I felt the same way about our past 2 PowerPoint assignments that we had to complete.
Seeing everyone take the assignments and make them into their own things is what is so interesting to me, because that is the part of a personal learning network that I benefit from the most. Everyone has the same assignments to complete, but goes about them differently, each discovering new parts of technology within them that everyone can learn how to use and learn from to further increase their technology knowledge for future needs.
Especially because of the fact that not everyone in our class will become teachers, it is interesting to me to see how these topics apply to them and their professional career that they are about to embark on, and if anything how what they take away from the things we learn can help me as a future teacher.
There are many technology skills that I have not yet encountered, but as a teacher would be super beneficial for me to learn about. One thing that really sparks an interest in me is the flipped classroom aspect. I know we covered this in class, however we did not go into it in depth, and I would like to learn how to master the flipped classroom technique.
Now more than ever, education is becoming technology oriented, and flipped classrooms may become the future of education. It intrigues me how important technology has become in technology, and I really want to learn how to come up with my own strategies and my own classroom setup so when I get to finally become a teacher, I know how to integrate the perfect balance of flipped classroom and the average classroom that I grew up with.
One way I can learn about the flipped classroom is using my Diigo account to join groups based off of flipped classroom. Another thing I can do is take a MOOC on it, but I would want it to be self paced, so I can learn it at my own pace.
One new technological movement/advancement at a time, I want to be able to educate myself on it and be familiar with it so I can become the best teacher I can possibly be when it is my turn to finally have my own classroom and my own students.

Blog #9: The Flipped Classroom, PowerPoint
The Flipped Classroom is a very interesting concept to me. It consists of different delivery systems, such as Distance Delivery, Online Delivery, and Blended Devilry. Distance Delivery is linked with distance education, which is the delivery of instruction to students who are separated from their teacher by time and/or location. Technology is what compromises the gap between time and/or location. Students do mot see their teacher in face to face settings. Due to advances in technology, Distance education has become more and more popular.
In Online Learning Delivery, the delivery systems offer instruction entirely from the Internet. Teachers and students use a Learning management system, which is composed of a series of bundled tools that schools can employ to create full - featured online classrooms. These systems usually present and organize course materials, provide assessments, add enhanced activity formats, record student progress with grade books, etc.
This system of delivery has a very popular feature, called an open source delivery. What this does is offers free services to help create and formulate assignments, wikis, chats, forums, surveys, lessons, workshops for peer assessments, etc. Another tool that we use currently that is apart of this learning system is BlackBoard.
LMS systems are very beneficial because they all operate the exact same way, so once you learn how to use one, the others are just as easy to navigate. With all of its features, LMS offers opportunities for students to participate in instruction at any time and from any place and for teachers to create innovative, pedagogically sound Internet based lessons for students regardless of their location.
The last type of delivery systems are blended delivery systems. This combines the elements of both face to face instruction and online learning. Some schools offer courses that meet regularly like traditional classes but with online support components. Other schools may offer occasional face to face meetings as support for an online course.
This blended system combines a traditional and online experiencing of learning in the classroom. Blended learning offers some unique advantages by providing the type of learning experience learners are most likely to have during their academic and work careers. Face to face training models are to time consuming and way to costly.
Blending online training and in house training is already the business norm. Another advantage is improved access to instruction. Teachers can use the communication tools in online learning to interact with students who cannot attend class. Students can use these same technologies to interact with peers.
Here is a link to educational videos about flipped classrooms. Believe it or not, they are at the bottom of an educational blog from Edutopia: Video
The Powerpoint information dissemination taught me a lot about Powerpoint software. I learned how to download a free template from the Internet, and use it as my own template for my own PowerPoint presentation. I also learned how to set background images for my slides, instead of uploading a picture and stretching it out to make it seem like I placed a background there.
I also learned how to use and edit the master slide of a powerpoint presentation, which allows me to customize the layout of my slides and have more say in the design, as well as how I choose to present my information.
There was nothing that I did not like about this project. What I did like the most was the fact that I had the freedom to make a presentation as if I am currently a teacher, teaching the grade level and subject that I want to teach in the future. It is something that I do not get the opportunity to do in any other class, and it really makes me challenge myself to see how great of a teacher i can become. I also like the ability to use free templates from the Internet, that are more complex and innovative.
If there was anything that I would improve for the next time I created a presentation, it would be to limit the amount of bulleted lists I have in them . I feel like i can create a more innovative, unique way to have my information pop off the screen that doesn't involve the same old, boring bullet points.
The PowerPoint Interaction assignment also taught me new things about the PowerPoint software that I didn't know were possible. I learned how to not only find but download a gameshow template on to PowerPoint software.
I also learned how to incorporate sounds with animations, which as crazy as it sounds was something I did not know how to do going into this assignment. I also learned how to hyperlink buttons, such as a home button that can navigate players of the game I made (Jeopardy) back to the overall question board. I also learned how to insert hyperlinks on shapes, allowing people to click the shape and move to the next slide.
There was nothing about this project that I did not like. What I did like was the fact that yet again I had freedom to choose whatever game I wanted to create, as well as the CPalms standard I got to base it off of. These assignments give me the opportunity to create these projects as if these are going to be used by me in a future class of mine, which gets me really excited.
Next time, if I was to do anything differently, it would maybe be to challenge myself and work in a group for this project. Personally, I like to get things done on my own schedule and be responsible for everything. But adapting to change is something that I need to give myself an opportunity to try. Below are the screenshots for my PowerPoint information dissemination and my PowerPoint Interaction assignment:

Diigo Reflection
I really enjoyed having the opportunity to use Diigo. I liked that you are able to join a group of individuals who have the same interests or job as you,l and create a personal learning network with these people. It gives you the opportunity to help other people in your network learn new things as well as for myself to learn new things that people find.
As a future teacher, I definitely see myself using social bookmarking in the future. I will find my own Diigo group full of teachers to develop a learning network, and in that network I will annotate articles I find, highlight key points or ideas, and comment on other people's articles so i can understand why they thought certain information was relevant to our Diigo group. Overall, I feel like i learned more from social viewing.
Social viewing allowed myself to view what other people think about the same topic, as well as share their points of view and their perspective based ion the articles they choose to include in our diigo group. With that being said, I definitely learned a lot while using diigo individually as well. Overall, Diigo is a great tool and I am glad I got to experience it and learn about it, because this will be a big help for me in my future career as a teacher.

ILP #2 Participation: MOOC "Introduction to Family Engagement in Education"
I learned a lot from participating in a MOOC. This MOOC was called, "Introduction to Family Engagement in Education". It was definitely very different being in an online class setting versus a regular class setting. The syllabus for the class, as well as all the lesson plans and assignments were all there for me, but there was no teacher to physically walk me through the steps of the course and to help teach the curriculum.
It makes you feel like you are all alone with the course material, and at first I felt lost. But once i navigated the syllabus and course calendar as well as the lesson plans and assignments, it slowly became manageable and I slowly became comfortable with the idea of an online class. Once I viewed the lesson plans, read the readings, answered the discussion questions, etc.
I actually learned a lot. It seems scary learning in a class without a teacher, but it actually was comforting to know that it is possible to take part in an online class and succeed. When it comes to the material itself, I thought it was very interesting. I was able to learn about how parents and teachers need to be equally engaged in their child's/ students' education.
This balance gives students the greatest chance to be the best student they can be, inside and outside of the classroom. Often times parents believe that they are not important in this process, and the teachers need to engage with the parents to explain that they are a very integral part of their child's learning process.
This class also talked about the different types of engagement between teachers, students, and parents based on age/ grade levels. This course also talks about how important engagement is, and how teachers, parents, and students can increase how much they engage with one another.
I liked the fact that after each video or reading during a specific lesson, there were questions that were asked to make sure we understood what we learned. I also liked the balance between readings and videos, because every good class always has an even balance. I also liked how we were surveyed before and after the class, to see why we joined the class, what we learned from it, how it was ran, etc. and if we would take it again, almost like a review after the class.
These online courses are very organized and they allow for a large amount of people to take a course at the same time. IT was interesting to me ti see that certain classes were self paced, meaning all the material was there from the start and accessible, while other classes were regulated by the professor themselves, putting up specific lectures, assignments, etc. at a time based off of the specific lesson being taught at the time, to regulate the learning of the students. The course I participated in was self paced.
Below are some examples of review questions I was asked after a video lecture or a reading, examples of readings that were assigned in the class, some of the shorter videos that were used in the lesson plan, as well as the survey that had to be taken before I began the course, and some of the pages of notes I took during the lessons I attended.

Blog #8 How to Keep Up With Technology Trends
Last week we toured the lab that showcased adaptive technology to help students at FSU with physical and learning disabilities. One technology that can be beneficial is the braille keyboard. I thought that it was such a unique and cool tool, allowing students who are blind to be able to type papers, homework assignments, etc. in the classroom.
Although they are quite expensive, these keyboards will help students who suffer from blindness complete assignments on a computer more efficiently and quickly that they ever could have before. It also allows a teacher in a classroom to focus on even student at a time, instead of having to direct more attention to the student who struggles writing their paper because of the fact that they are blind and need more attention.
A braille keyboard will also help theses students become more independent, and make them feel happier about themselves. Another awesome tool that is beneficial for students with physical or learning disabilities in the classroom is the smart pen. The smart pen records the class audio while students are writing down specific notes.
After the class, if the student wants to go back and review their notes, they just highlight the notes with the smart pen, and the pen will play the recording of what the teacher was talking about at the time of that specific note being written down in a student's notebook.
This helps students in the classroom who are unable to focus for long periods of time, as well as student who physically is unable to process a lecture the first time that hey hear it. These two tools were my favorite tools I saw at the lab, and I think are the most beneficial for classrooms.
Powerpoint is a very successful tool to use in the classroom. When it comes to Bloom's Taxonomy (First time I've heard of this), students can learn each level of this by being taught powerpoint. The different levels of Bloom's Taxonomy are create, evaluate, analyze, apply, understand, and remember. For example, lets say a high school teacher is teaching their studetns about WWII by using a powerpoint presentation.
When it comes to creating, students can create a powerpoint presentation themselves about a specific subtopic of WWII after seeing an example from their teacher. This will help students to retain information and learn new things about WWII that is important to their curriculum.
The next level is evaluate, and teachers can incorporate evaluating in their power points very easily. Teachers can place discussion questions or activities or a pros and cons chart of WWII in the powerpoint, and have students go up to the SmartBoard and write right inside the powerpoint, allowing them to hands on learn.
The next level is analyze. Teachers can place practice questions for the exam on WWII in the powerpoint and have the students answer them. Teachers can also make a game such as jeopardy on a powerpoint, as a WWII test review, which would give the student a fun way to analyze the informatobn they need to know for their exam.
After analyzing comes applying. So, having students answer an essay question about the benefits of WWII that is shown in the powerpoint gets students to use the information they learned in the powerpoint to help them answer an important question that will be seen on their exam.
Next comes understanding. Teachers teaching WWII should put a question at the end of the powerpoint that students should have to answer, that sums up what they learned in class today about WWII. Following this, next class the teacher will ask their students to remember what they learned last class by using an AIM or do now activity, asking them to discuss hat they learned in the last powerpoint, to reinforce/make sure they took away the key points of the powerpoint presentation from the previous class. These are some of the ways students will learn from each level of Bloom's Taxonomy from powerpoint presentations.
As a teacher, it is more important now then ever before to embrace the changes of technology, and to make sure that as teachers we follow new developments in the world of teaching when it comes to technology and its trends. These trends although very different will help revolutionize teaching, and it is out job as teachers to know what they are, advocate for them, and eventually attempt to have a chance to use them in the classroom some day.
There are many ways to stay up to date with technology trends in the teaching world. One great resource that will keep you in the loop is EdTech Magazine. What this magazine does is come out with articles that discuss new developments, potential trends, etc., in ed tech that can be used in the future. It also discusses every aspect of technology for teachers and schools alike that are important for teachers to be successful in teaching their students with new technology. Sources like these are great tools to use to make sure you as a teacher are up to date with the latest technology trends in the classroom.

Diigo #4
Through Diigo's activity, I learned that assistive technology can help students with either physical or learning disabilities better understand and comprehend curriculum that they are trying to learn. It allows them to be more confident in themselves, and allows them to work at their own pace and get the attention and help that they need while learning.

#7 My Website!
Americans With Disabilities Act is a law that makes it illegal to discriminate against anyone with a disability, and provides help for these people. Adaptive technology helps people with physical and learning disabilities use computer equipment and technology more effectively.
People with physical disabilities don't know how to read, see a regular monitor, type, use mouse, etc. There are input and output alternatives to help students with physical disabilities learn how to navigate technology.
Examples of alternative input devices are voice recognition, customizable keyboards, and joysticks, etc. while examples of alternative output devices are a magnified screen, braille printers, have someone read the text to these students, screen readers, etc.
Students with learning disabilities such as dyslexia can have spell checkers or speech recognition software to help them better cope with technology. Computer based organizers also help them succeed in the classroom.
Computer based learning isn't inheritable for all students. Left to right screen layouts need to be obtained, as well as certain color schemes due to students who are colorblind, or have other types of learning disabilities. Teachers need to make learning materials easier to use for all students by following certain tips that they can find online.
I do not know anybody personally who has had to use these adaptive technologies, and I have not had to use these technologies as well. I do work with a lot of kids back home who have autism, but they have never needed/used these adaptive technologies. There are definitely some challenges that teachers will come across while working with this adaptive technology.
One challenge is the training not just the teachers need to master these adaptive technologies, but the students as well. It takes a great deal of time and effort to learn how to master these technologies, and it is not easy by any means. Also the tech staff at your school needs to learn how to use these technologies as well, in case they break or need updates or there is an issue that the teacher cannot solve.
Another challenge is choosing which adaptive technology best fits your students that need them. There are so many options out there, and the teacher needs to be in contact with parents, doctors, school psychologists, etc. in order to pick the best technology for the disabled student to use. One last challenge is collaboration between students in the classroom who are disabled versus students who are not.
If a teacher assigns a project, and the disabled student is put in a group with a bunch of average students, it is going to be hard for them to work together because of the fact t hat they have different technological devices to use. This also could lead to bullying and other social issues in younger grades that could negatively impact the student with a disability.
To add to that, not every computer in the school will be programmed with the software that disabled students need in order to use a computer effectively. This should be an easy fix for the school, as long as they are willing to download and purchase the software need for the disabled students to effectively use the computers.
The web page design was something very cool, that I had a lot of fun creating. It definitely had its ups and down, but overall it taught me so much. It taught me how to think like a teacher, along with being organized and putting my data together in a way that is easy to understand, looks nice, and is organized. Most importantly it helped me deliver important information to my potential classroom of students. I liked the calendar feature.
Tockify is a great calendar app that's easy to read for younger students as well as for parents. Also being able to supply links for resources to review and practice the curriculum on a website for my students gives them access to work 24/7, which is something that I value and think is really important in my classroom. I also learned how to use proper fonts for titles and proper fonts for actual articles. All sans fonts should be titles, while sans serif fonts should be used for the actual description or article you are writing.
There's nothing that I disliked about the website creation process, however it was just frustrating at first learning how to navigate it and insert everything that I wanted to put in the website. As a future teacher, a classroom website is an important part to my teaching, and this taught me how to organize and create one that is not only easy for my student to understand and navigate, but for the parents as well.
If there was anything I could imporve with my website for next time, it would be to figure out how to add and use more of the applications Weebly has to offer. Overall, I am really happy with how may website came out! Here is my website link and a screenshot of the "About Me" page!

Teacher Productivity Tools through Diigo
Through this activity, I learned that teacher productivity tools are very unique, efficient, and effective ways for teachers to plan out/create their everyday responsibilities in a very organized fashion. They can either do this individually, or collaborate with other teachers in their personal learning network. Teachers have so many incredible productivity tools at their disposal to help enhance the business aspect of teaching.

ILP #1
For my first independent learning project, I chose to use Prezi for the first time to design a future presentation I would give to my students, 3rd graders in this case. My topic covers the CPALMS standard SS.3.A.1.1. (analyzing primary and secondary sources). Here is the link to my presentation!

#6 Throwback Thursday & Wishing I had my own Tech Sandbox
I decided for this blog post that I would go back to my old school district's website (Plainview Old Bethpage Central School District). Every single teacher that works in my school district in NY has a teacher website, where all students can access information needed to do well in the classroom, such as a course calendar, homework calendar, review sheets, educational websites, etc.
Some teachers rely on this website more than others, meaning that some have taken a lot of time to develop and make a great website for their students to use to help them succeed academically, while other teachers have a blank page because they choose to wither use a different source of technology, or none at all to connect with their student throughout the school year.
So I decided to click on my 7th grade math teacher's website. When you first open it, it welcomes all of her students as well as the parents of her students. She then has different tabs for each class period that she teaches, because of the fact that they are learning different topics, or some classes may be ahead of others, or the fact that some are advanced classes and others are not.
After you click on the period your class is, there is another link that takes you to that specific class website, which is actually on Schoolnotes 2.0 The only thing I can see without signing in is the homework log as well as the most recent worksheet that was worked on in class.
You have access to much more if you sign in and are subscribed to the teachers page, such as the ability to contact the teacher, reviews for exams and quizzes, notes, etc.
Below is the link to my teacher's Schoolnotes 2.0 account, but we are only able to view a very small amount of content, as well as a screenshot of the Schoolmates 2.0 homepage.

Professional development terms are used to describe lifelong learning teachers engage in. Life is always changing, and teachers need to adapt to that. Technology has changed this due to the fact that the traditional ways to develop teachers are becoming outdated. Traditional ways to develop teachers are when teachers attended conferences, meetings or classes to further sharpen their skills.
Now, those are still available, however developing teachers is available over online conferences, as well as building networks of teachers over social media. Teachers can bring peers and experts together at the click of a button with blogs, webinar, Diigo and Twitter. Blogs allow teachers to share their experiences of teaching to other teachers, creating a network.
New teachers can learn from these blogs by reading them to prepare for what life is like to become a teacher, as well as get ideas for classroom strategies, such as classroom management or new technologies to use in the classroom. Webinars focus on using software and hardware, such as ISTE webinar. these are free or at a very small fee.
Diigo is a social bookmarking tool to form groups with other teachers to share and comment on articles or blogs, as well as annotate on these resources. Twitter helps teachers follow professionals or educational pages to help them get ideas for their classrooms.
Teachers can also develop really large networks and contact professionals immediately to help them out with daily teaching issues, trying out new strategies, etc. Technology continues to develop allowing education to be refined in a very positive way for all teachers to use.
As a teacher, I plan on being apart of a network of teachers who have blogs, Twitters, Diigos, etc. to help me get through my first few years as a teacher, so I am aware of what to expect and I know how to approach certain scenarios. It would also be very important to me to be able to ask questions to a network of teachers regarding my specific encounters in the classroom that I need help finding the best possible solution to.
As a teacher, there are many technology sources I can use to accomplish my professional responsibilities more efficiently and effectively. One type of source that I will definitely be using are presentation softwares.
These will help me to organize and enhance the delivery of my information when I am teaching a lesson, trying to run an activity, trying to get my students involved and engaged, etc. Presentations have always been effective when I was a student trying to learn material, so therefore I am going to attempt to use the newer types of presentation technology to create fun and engaging presentations for my students.
Presentations will help me organize my materials more efficiently and effectively, also allowing me to make my lesson plans more efficiently and effectively. Another type of technology I can use is word processing. Word processing will allow me to create handouts, rubrics, tables, etc. to help me become organized an get work done at a very fast and effective rate.
Word processing will also help me to create newsletters, permission slips, letters home to parents, etc. at very efficient rates, to make simple tasks not harder than they should be to complete. Both of these tools are great tools that I will also introduce my students to and highly encourage them to use.
The technology sandbox was one of the coolest things I have ever seen. So much of the most current up to date technology in one room is absolutely incredible. It just makes your mind spin a mile a minute when you think about which one of those amazing tools would suit my needs as a teacher the best. One that I 100% want to have in my classroom and know that I will have in my classroom is a SmartBoard.
I have been using these ever since I was in middle school, and I know that they still can be amazing tools to use in the classroom. What I didn't know it can do, however, was supply me with thousands of interactive presentations created by other teachers using the most advanced technology. I will totally take advantage of these presentations to help my students experience the most technologically advanced way of learning, while having fun doing it.
SmartBoards are also a great tool to help students review for exams, as well as get shy students involved. Every student loves to come up to the board and fill in the blank or write out the math solution. Another technology from the tech sandbox I will use in my classroom is the 3D printing, pending if I end up becoming a special education teacher.
I can use this printer to create products with braille, or objects that make it easier for students with disabilities to learn and understand concepts. On top of that, if i work with younger students, I will make sure that I create items to help the class learn concepts. If i want to teach younger students numbers, i can create numbers with the 3D printer and have the students play games with them.
The more they are involved and interact with me as the teacher, the more fun than will have and the easier it will be for them to learn. Honestly, I wish as a teacher I will be supplied with a large budget so I can purchase the entire tech sandbox, I would love all of the items in my future classroom!
Diigo #2
During this activity, I learned that annotating an article through Diigo helps other teachers in your personal learning networks to understand the main idea of important articles that they can use to help better improve their teaching skills in the classroom. Annotating is also a great way to have teachers collaborate and create new ideas for the classroom with one another. This is definitely a unique feature that I can see myself using as a future teacher.

#5 The Technology of The Future
The Web is an important teacher planning tool. There are 2 different generations of the web. Web 1.0 delivers static content to all of its users. Web 2.0 is more sophisticated and allows people to interact and communicate with each other on social media. Examples of Web 2.0 can be blogs, YouTube, etc. Many people use these tools, but teachers can use Web 2.0 in many effective ways in the classroom.
Teachers can use YouTube to locate videos for educational purposes, or class blogs to keep everyone active in passive ways. There are 4 main Web 2.0 tools that teachers can use to enhance education for students. They are blogs, Wikis, Twitter, and Diigo. Blogs are student publishing platforms, allowing students to showcase their work.
There are student safe blog sites in which the teacher can regulate who can see the blogs and who can comment, protecting the students' safety. Wikis engage students in collaborative writing or help them to develop a collaborative knowledge basis. With a Twitter account, students can follow authors, scientists, and other educational related pages or people.
They can also reach out to the source and directly contact them, if they have any questions or want to know more information regarding that person and/or organization. Diigo is a social bookmarking tool that can be used to share resources found online with other students or teachers in the classrooms. They can comment and ask questions right on the article.
I feel that all of these tools are very useful for teaching, especially something like Diigo. Diigo not only requires collaboration within students and teachers, but it is a great way for students to team up and work together, helping each other succeed. Diigo creates a personal learning network, which I think is super important to establish once students are in appropriate grade levels to be using personal learning networks to help them enhance tier learning.
However, Web 2.0 does bring up safety concerns. To keep students safe, teachers can use classroom accounts for all interactions that are teacher controlled/monitored. Having teachers monitor content and using password protected sites will also protect student safety. Interactive 2.0 tools can be regularly integrated in class as long as the teachers take part in extensive research to find websites with safety regulations.
There are many interesting Web 2.0 tools out there for my disposal. As a future teacher, there are so many that can help me in the future to further elevate my teaching abilities. One Web 2.0 tool that I find very interesting that I will use when teaching is Teacher Planet. Teacher Planet makes lesson plan templates, as well as lesson plan worksheets that can be downloaded, and once filled in with your lesson, can be easily emailed/distributed to not only your teachers, but parents as well so they can stay on top of what their children are currently learning in class.
I think this is a great resource, because not only does it keep teachers organized and allow them to format their presentations and worksheets and notes in ways that they want, but it also allows for parents and students to easily receive this information. Parents love to be involved, so this gives them that feeling of involvement, and this allows students to have an extra copy of notes and lessons so they can study at home with their parents.
This tool also allows for teachers to electronically keep track of their grade books, creates rubrics for projects/essays teachers want to assign, and also helps create certificate to give to students based off of high level performance. Overall, this tool is an amazing Web 2.0 tool that I intend to seriously look into when I become a teacher. (http://www.teacherplanet.com)
There are many technological advancements that have promise in the educational world. Some will go farther than others, and some will be proven more useful than others but with the advancement of technology comes new technological advancements in the field of education. Personally, I believe that certain technological advancements are more promising for certain grade levels than others.
With that being said, I believe that Gamification has the most promise in the future of the educational world. Gamification is taking educational games, and adding new advanced elements to them. These elements increase motivation and interactivity, creativity, and allows students to more deeply understand curriculum. In a world where the attention span of children is drastically decreasing, and not only that but the fact that young toddlers are currently being introduced to technology, these advanced educational games is the perfect fit.
Instead of students texting, tweeting, etc. all day long, swap out there phone for a device that is locked and only contains access to these educational games. Plan out your day as a teacher so that there are small periods of time where the students are taking notes learning, then turning to these tablets containing only Gamification games.
These games can be used to assess students instead of paper exams, be a good source of extra credit, great study tools, or even great ways to increase student participation in kids that are particularly shy, don't like to speak, but have no problem typing on this tablet to communicate.
The example in the textbook that really warmed my heart was the World Peace Game, where 4th graders had to play a multilevel board game with their classmates in which students represent different countries and have to achieve world peace despite conflicting views, without military intervention.
It's innovations like these that will bring teaching to a new level, making school exciting and fun for students to learn, and allowing students to want to engage in the curriculum they once thought was so boring that they could barely stay awake. There's not a doubt in my mind that Gamification is the next big thing in the teaching industry, and this will go as far as teachers allow it too. This product can and will revolutionize the way teachers teach.
Diigo Activity
Through the Diigo activity, I learned about all the different types of academic software in a much more engaging way. Being able to look at other websites that are different types of academic software that my classmates have found allows me to expand on my knowledge regarding the different types of academic software and how beneficial they can be in the classroom.

Ecourse Review
The content I learned in this Ecourse is very important to me currently as a student. This taught me easier ways to communicate with a group for a project. This Ecourse also taught me how to use new softwares and features that I have never even heard of before taking this course.
Most importantly, in my opinion, I have learned how and where to find project management tools, to keep me on task with big or small projects. In my future career as a teacher, project management skills will be crucial, as well as being able to have video meetings with my colleagues to ask for advice or with my team members in order to coordinate schedules and testing for the students. I didn't have any ah ha moments during this course, but I did find it very interesting, informative, and helpful.
When it came to the design, conceptually, it flowed perfectly, going from one topic to the next and they all were relevant to each other. I did encounter technical difficulties while using this. One of the lectures would not allow me to pause, causing me to have to rush on my notes for that section and it stressed me out.
The graphic design was great and very organized. I also though that the activities were very helpful and were great reviews to see what we have learned from that lecture. Overall, the Ecourse was very useful, however I would much rather have a teacher in class teaching me.

#4 Twitter, Digital Divide, software usage
When I first started using Twitter, I had my doubts. Coming from someone who has never used Twitter before, I felt it was unnecessary and something that I would not enjoy. However, after finally starting to use Twitter for the first time, I am actually really enjoying myself. Twitter has helped me interact with my classmates, which is something I think is really important.
It's allowing me to communicate with my classmates in order to understand assignments whenever I am confused, educational websites that interest me are going straight to my Twitter feed, allowing me to have the ability to directly see everything that is of my interest from that particular website, and I also have the ability to interact with my professor on Twitter as well.
Twitter has truly helped me make a small network with people who are trying to achieve the same goals as me, and that is something that has been helping me since the first day I got a Twitter. In my future career, Twitter can help me to find a network of other teachers, as well as follow pages that have advice for teachers.
In addition to that, I can follow my colleagues and we can continue to funds other people or pages that will help us become more successful in my career. The more people I meet, the great my network can become as a teacher, and that is very important to me. Twitter can also be used by my future students. I would help them create their own personal networks with each other, deepening on the age of my future students.
The Digital Divide discusses the gap between people who have access to technology and people who do not have access to technology. Not everyone has computers, phones, or access to these things. Educational impact creates disparity among students. Students who have digital access at home are able to be more successful then students without digital access at home or ones that need to go to a library to access technology.
Students who have technology at home are able to succeed in the classroom academically a lot more than students who do not have technology access at home. In areas where technology is scarce, teachers do not assign many projects, homework, etc. that require technology. The Digital Divide affects society because students with technology are able not only be prepared for using technology for a job setting or college setting, but have already mastered technology before they get to that point in their lives.
On the other hand, students who do not have technology will have difficulties learning, and it will hinder their effects to be successful in the workforce as well as college. These people will need to receive more training or even take classes to master technology in order to have a successful career. More jobs are increasingly dependent on technology.
Teachers should be sensitive to issues regarding this the Digital Divide. If students don't have access to technology, teachers should not assign homework or out of class projects that require technology. Teachers need to help develop student confidence in the classroom while technology is readily available and able to be used by the students who are not capable of using technology at hone because they do not have technology. For these students, the classroom is the only time they have to learn, become accustom to, and master technology.
As a teacher in the future, I will have to modify my teaching strategies so that I will be able to accommodate the students who do not have access to technology and students who do have access do technology at the same time. I will provide my classroom with a class set of tablets so they will be able to learn how to navigate and hopefully master technology.
For the students who don't have any access to technology, I will allow them to take their tablets home as well so they can use them as their new only source of technology. In addition to this, I would also provide additional lessons to the students who don't have access to technology at home in order to teach them how to master important technological skills that they will need not only in the classroom, but for college as well as their future careers.
Assuming that I will be a 10th grade English teacher, there are certain student softwares that I will use more than others, because certain softwares are more valuable to me as a High School English teacher than others. The student softwares I would expect to use the most are Reference softwares and Academic softwares.
Reference softwares provide resources in a digital form that are available for anyone to use online. As an English teacher, these types of software are crucial for making sure that students use the correct grammar, spelling, as well as the most advanced vocabulary possible when writing journal entries, papers, projects, etc. The types of reference softwares I would have my students use are dictionaries, thesauruses, encyclopedias, grammar tools, etc.
Academic softwares are created for the sole intention of developing and promoting learning. These softwares are very valuable to teaching my students. These will help my students find research as well as research papers, to help them write research papers, or other essays requiring research that are required to be written in a high school English class.
These will also teach my students how to master searching databases, that way they have the abilities to look at databases and know how to operate them for college and for their professional careers, if it is necessary for their careers. Academic databases are an example of this type of software, and I will spend a lot of time teaching my students how to master this software.
It is a skill that is necessary for professional life, not just high school, so I want to make sure that my students master this skill, and never forget how to use it. I can also use drill and practice softwares to help my students practice exercises regarding grammar and reading comprehension, helping them gear for the SAT/ACT.
On the other hand, one software that I will not use at all/ use the least to teach my students is educational games. Educational games software puts instructional content into a gem like simulation/ game like format. In a 10th grade English class, the importance of educational games really declines.
Had I been teaching a math, science, or social studies class, then I would consider the possibility of using these softwares. Even if I was in a younger English class, I would consider using this type of software for vocabulary games. But because of the fact that a 10th grade English class focuses more on essays and research paper, there really is no value in me teaching my students with educational games software.

#3 Technology Takeover!
The ELA technology standards are very important for any prospective teacher to understand. Being a student, I have felt more comfortable with some of these standards than others. Those standards that I feel the most comfortable with are the ones that I will feel most prepared to teach when I become a teacher.
The standard I feel most prepared to teach currently has to be W/WHST.8 “Use Multiple Sources". For those of you who don't know what this standard does, this standard allows teachers to provide their students with information regarding what makes a source credible and/or accurate, along with what makes a source primary versus secondary. All of this is taken to account, and used in projects, papers, etc., but students will be taught how to avoid plagiarizing these sources.
I feel that this standard is one that I could teach today, because of how much experience I have had with this topic. Ever since I was in elementary school, I've known the difference between a primary and secondary source, and in middle school I learned how to avoid plagiarism. These are life skills that I have had throughout most of my academic career that I know i would be able to successfully teach to younger students today.
The other ELA standard that I feel the most comfortable with teaching today is L.5 "Vocabulary Using Context Clues". The fact that I potentially want to become an English teacher, I have tutored children for years teaching them the skills of context clues in reading comprehension assignments, as well as to learn new vocabulary words. This is also a topic that was very important to master in order to be successful in taking the ACT/SAT. This is yet another topic that I have known how to do since I was in elementary school, and would feel 100% comfortable teaching this to younger students today.
Although there are some standards that I believe I have mastered throughout my academic career, there are still some standards that I don't feel comfortable teaching, that I would need to learn more about. One standard that I would like to learn how to perfect is SL.3 "Evaluate Speakers Point of View". This task to me is something that has always been somewhat challenging. The one thing that I always struggle with is understanding the speaker's rhetorical analysis, and I want to learn how to be able to identify that before I am comfortable teaching this standard.
Another standard that I need to gain more knowledge about before feeling prepared to teach it is SL.5 "Use Digital Media". I like to consider myself as somebody who is technologically advanced, but one thing that I can't successfully accomplish for the life of me is visual displays and maximizing the advanced skills of creating a presentation. I usually make the basic presentations that consist of all of the links to videos, typical information and animations that display my information. I would love to master the art of creating and teaching how to make a presentation while using the most advanced tools and advanced technology.
Now more than ever, technology has become a very important part of the classroom. As a teacher, there are many technological innovations that I would want to use with my students to help enhance their academic experience and to give them the best opportunities to succeed academically.
Assuming my students are high schoolers, lets say 10th grade, technology would be a very big part of my classroom. First, I would have all of my students create email accounts solely for my class, specifically Gmail. One thing I have learned (specifically from this class) is how vital Google Docs is and can be for a class. Being able to upload lectures and have the students converse with each other while giving lectures and create their own unique community is something so pivotal in my mind, in the teaching and learning process.
I would also create an email list, so I can email all of my students important announcements and keep them on task while in the midst of big projects, exams, etc. Not only that, Google Drive is a place where all students can save and upload their work to, so they will never lose it. Students can also simultaneously work on projects, papers, assignments, etc. together, which no other email service offers.
One more technological application that I found to be super intriguing is the Learning Management System (LMS). This system almost acts as a virtual classroom. It allows for students in the same class to work on all of their assignments online. In addition to that, it allows for teachers to use a unique and different way to make and present their lectures, as well as track their students' activity, and can be used to grade students' assignments as well.
It almost acts as a class manager, as if you were to put your classroom on autopilot for a few days. I believe a tool like this can be very helpful for a first time teacher. This can help them stay on track, maintain their classroom and overall use this as another tool to help their students become successful in the classroom. The LMS can help teachers and students become more familiar with and learn how to master technology in the classroom.
Teaching 10th graders, they've been hearing the same speech year after year about acceptable classroom conduct. However, the older the students get, the more you as the teacher need to make sure that the students completely understand these rules. Digital Citizenship is something that has become more and more important with the rise of technology in classrooms.
In a 10th grade classroom, I feel that it is extremely important to go over all 5 major guidelines of Digital Citizenship, however, some in more depth than others. For example, I believe that by 10th grade students understand how to demonstrate technological skills to use and participate on the Web successfully, as well as how to avoid cyberbullying and to show proper behavior while on the Web, so those will just be touched on briefly.
Another guideline that will be briefly talked about is just reminding my students to be responsible for your own actions, and everything that you post can be linked back to you. Technology is a powerful tool and can help them get through high school and college, but a few mistakes on social media or on the web in general can result in some serious consequences, so I would just urge them to be smart about what they post and how they act o n the Internet.
However, a controversial guideline such as students being aware of and obeying copyright laws is something that I, as a teacher, would extensively go over with my students. I would honestly probably touch upon this for a day or two, giving them exercises and making sure they are all 100% positive they are aware and know how to avoid copyright. Knowing how to obey copyright rules is a skill that these students will need beyond their academic careers, but they will need them for their occupational careers as well.
Open terms is about making information open to a large population, in particular, the public. Open terms refers to anything that is available for use or modification depending on if the person using the term/source wants to edit it. Open education has allowed for online courses to be available for free for everyone by certain schools. Open learning allows motivated learners to learn whatever they want on their own time for free. Open content specifies what people can and can't do with the materials they find online. Reuse, revise, remix, and redistribute are the ways this content can be used.
Open content allows teachers to participate in a community of teachers who share each others content and respect each others work. Open source refers to programming or coding of software, allowing people to edit software to add new features or updates to a specific program. Open source software is free and can be downloaded from the Internet (ex. Open Office, Lennox, etc.). Most educators do not want to be apart of this software community, but this software can benefit them. Open means resources, that are readily available and useful for educators. They are mostly free and they are able to be edited as well. Here is a link to Open Office, which is an open source software:

The newsletter design assignment was something that opened me up to new skills on Microsoft Word, and helped me to learn how to make newsletters, which I can incorporate in my classrooms when I become a teacher. There are several new skills I acquired from the newsletter project. For example, I learned how to use the function where I can type my articles in multiple columns. Believe it or not, this is something that I have never used or knew how to use before this assignment. Another skill I learned how to master was naming hyperlinks. I always knew how to make websites appear as hyperlinks, but I never knew how to name them as something other than the website name itself.
Overall, I really liked the newsletter project. It taught me how to think like a teacher and to plan out what I wanted my students to get out of my classroom on their first encounter with me. I also learned how to sharpen my organizational skills, and make my work look more professional than I am usually able to make these type of assignments turn out. I like how this project challenged me to think about how to make this project appealing to students, while using the new tools that we have learned in class regarding Microsoft Word. I also liked the fact that my peers had an opportunity to check out our work and let us know what they thought of it before we turned it in.
There wasn't anything about the project I did not like, and personally I believe it should be kept the exact way that it is currently. In my future career as a teacher, I can now incorporate these newsletters into my classrooms regularly. It is a fun thing to have my students help me create to keep them on task and to help build a greater relationship with them. I am very excited to show you all my newsletter on this blog! I hope you all like it!

#2 Protecting My Future Students
As a student, I've used Microsoft Word for many things. I type all of my papers on Word, I make quizzes and tests on Word whenever I need to do in class activities. I also make other class activities, such as surveys, on word as well. In addition, I upload all of my pictures to Word whenever I want to make a collage or print out a bunch of pictures on one page (although I'm sure there is a better way to do that), etc. I use Microsoft Word almost every day as a college student as well, because I am always completing assignments with it. At the same time, I've seen my teachers use Word for many things as well. My teachers use word for creating rubrics, creating guidelines/rules/procedures for the classroom, for creating exams and quizzes, homework schedules, course calendars, etc. I've even seen teachers take attendance with it by having each student type their name on a document for the day. Microsoft Word is a great asset for both students and teachers.
Copyright and Fair Use are very important things in the educational world. Copyright is a form of protection for intellectual property. A person with a copyright has exclusive right to use and distribute it. People may have to pay that person to use their work. Textbooks, videos, and softwares are copyrighted, as well as other resources from the internet. Copyright governs what teachers and students can and can't use in the classroom. For example, owning a software license allows you to use other people's work, but pirating is illegal. Fair use is a set of guidelines allow users to copy material for non profit reasons based on how it is used, how much it is used, and what impact it has win its value. Students of all ages should be made aware of copyrighting laws, based on age of course. Teachers need to explain why you can't photocopy a book or duplicate a video. When it comes to my experiences with copyright and fair use, as bad as it sounds, there are some situations where i din't even think it was applicable. There are photos and videos that my friends show my on Facebook that I then post or share, not ever thinking that it was copyright. There are videos that I would include in my presentations in high school, but my teacher would always as ask see it and make sure we weren't copyrighting before we used them. Besides that I personally have never encountered any copyrighting issues or fair use issues in the classroom. To avoid copyright and fair use violations as a teacher, there are some things I would do. First, I would only use information out of a textbook or other sources that is necessary to meet an educational goal. Also, I would always cite my sources, being a role model to my students teaching them the same tactics to avoid these crucial issues.
Implementation issues are divided into several categories: legal, social, and ethical. All of these issues can hinder the learning process as well as make the teaching environment less safe fore students, making it harder for them to learn and be successful in the classroom. One of these issues that have become increasingly serious is cyberbullying. In my classroom I can prevent cyberbullying by having my students sign Internet safe pledges. These are contracts that when students sign, they promise not to cyberbully. As a teacher, I would also teach my students about what cyberbullying is and how to prevent it, as well as how to seek help if you need help stopping it or are a victim of it. I would also provide parents with resources if needed to help their child prevent cyberbullying. Another implementation issue is academic dishonesty. As a teacher, there are many ways to go about preventing this in the classroom. First, to make sure that students do not plagiarize, I would use an anti-plagiarism software, that catches students when hey plagiarize after they submit their work to the software. Also during tests, I would make sure my students put their phones on my desk, and I would constantly roam the halls making sure nobody is trying to look at other students' papers. I would also make my students sign academic honor policies, holding them accountable for cheating and/or plagiarizing. One more implementation issue that has been controversial is student privacy. There are many ways as a teacher that you can protect your student's records. For example, in order to pull up pictures of students, you need written permission from the student's parents/guardians. Also, as a teacher, you need to avoid putting your students location and/or information on the Internet. Lastly, as a teacher you can explain to your students The Children's Internet Protection Act and the Protecting Children in the 21st Century Act. These acts protects students while on the Internet, helping them by blocking websites that can danger their privacy. There are many other implementation issues, but these three are the ones I find to be the more serious issues that need to be resolved.

#1 First Chapters of the Textbook, ITSE Standards, and "Digital Natives"
Teachers are influened in many ways to use technology in their classrooms. An accomplished practice that teachers have is the ability to meet teaching technology standards. Also in order to obtain a teacher licensure/certification, teachers need to meet very specific technology requirements. Due to the fact that teachers are certified in using educational technology, this will influence them to use technology in their classrooms. In addition, technology allows teachers to best support and enhance teaching in the classroom. Teachers are able to improve their organizational skills by creating class websites. This keeps all homework assignments, lesson plans, presentations, etc. online, allowing students to have easy access to materials they missed, need to submit, and/or need to study. Teachers also use apps in the classroom. These apps are educational and provide teachers with fun/effective ways for students to review and understand classroom materials. Teachers are also influenced to use technology because of the fact that it is an amazing tool to help students participate in the classroom. Students love the opportunity to go fill in the blank on the SmartBoard, or solve the math problem on the SmartBoard. It makes education more enticing for the students.
At the same time, students are also influenced to use technology in the classroom. Some students have different learning styles than other students. Students who are more visual learners are more likely to use tablets/laptops in class to look at certain diagrams, pictures, charts, etc. to help them better understand the topic that they are learning in class that day. In addition, students are influenced to use technology because it reinforces their learning. To this day I still use Quizlet. This website allows me to upload terms and definitions into a set and this site tests me on those terms and definitions by using games, activities, or just online exams. Technology also has the chance to help diverse students understand curriculum by using certain audio softwares, or translation websites to help them understand what is being said in the classroom. Students also have the opportunity to use things such as Google Docs, giving them the opportunity to work on projects simultaneously with a group of students. Google Docs allows students to use critical thinking by planing out how they want to create their projects, giving them the best opportunity to succeed in the classroom. Unfortunately there are times when students can use technology in a negative way. The most obvious reason is cell phone use. Teachers may have planned a game out on an app, but students may choose to text instead. This is one negative idea that students may be influenced to do in the classroom.
The ISTE standards for students is a great way not only to hold students accountable for how they are using technology, but to help them understand how to master technology, and to also encourage them to use technology in a positive way to help them succeed in not just the classroom, but in their every day life as well. The ISTE standards for teachers makes sure that as role models, teachers show their students the proper ways to use technology, as well as helping students learn as much about technology and have their students be able to use technology as an asset not only for their class, but for future classes to come due to the fact that technology is such an important aspect of not only being a student, but being a teacher as well as becoming successful in life. I do have one particular favorite standard the ISTE has for students. My favorite standard is the Digital Citizen standard which states: "Students recognize the rights, responsibilities, and opportunities of living, learning, and working in an interconnected digital world, and they act and model in ways that are safe, legal, and ethical." I was really happy to see this standard, because it is teaching students how to be accountable for their actions online, as well as to understand what they can and cannot do on the Internet. I also really like how technology is phrased as an opportunity, because if they do things on the Internet that are illegal and/or unethical, they will lose that opportunity. They are being taught how to be model citizens and that is something that is super important in today's society. One standard that is currently not in my skill set is the Innovative Designer standard which states, "Students use a variety of technologies within a design process to identify and solve problems by creating new, useful, or imaginative solutions." As a student, I feel like I never had the opportunity to express myself with technology in a way that allowed me to use my imagination to help me solve problems in class to better enhance my learning of a specific subject, topic, curriculum, etc. Looking back on it now, I wish that I had the opportunity when I was younger to learn how to use my imagination with technology and be creative in figuring out new ways to study, complete assignments/projects in my classes growing up.
A digital native refers to somebody who has grown up knowing and understanding technology. These are people who are currently children, teens, and young adults. We cannot remember a time without computers, the internet, and cell phones. They constantly use it to help them with their personal lives, but struggle using it in the workforce. A digital immigrant refers to people of older age who learned about technology as they were already adults. They watched technology become what it currently is today. They had the opportunity to learn and become familiar with the new technology, or refuse to adapt to this new way of life. They see it as a way to support them with their work, but don't understand how to use it in for personal use. Natives are more used to the presence of technology than immigrants are. There is definitely a difference between students as digital natives, and teachers as digital immigrants. Students use technology as a way to socialize and for personal issues, while teachers use technology more to create exams, presentations, lectures, study guides, etc. Sometimes, teachers struggle using technology to help them inside the classroom. Outside of the classroom however, some of my teachers still use flip phones (as crazy as that sounds, it is true!). I find it interesting how some teachers try to incorporate technology into their lesson plans, but constantly rely on their students to help them get the technology up and running. My teachers have given me the knowledge of knowing what technology to use for presentations, studying, research, etc. and without them I do not think I would have been able to master those achievements. I do not believe that their will be any differences between myself as a teacher and my future students when it comes to technology use. As a digital native, I have had technology around me all my life, and I will always be advanced when it comes to understanding and using it, and so will my future students. The only difference us that their will be new technological developents while they are students that I as a teacher have never seen before, but I, more likely than not, will quickly adjust to these advances in technology.

#0 My First Ever Blog
I have had many prior experiences using technology. Every single day I use technology to check Blackboard, Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Word, PowerPoint, complete my homework, etc. Technology is a big part of my life and without it life would be very different. Even minutes before my class started today, I was checking sports scores on my phone and what to look forward to today in the sports world. Even back at home in Long Island, New York, technology is a big part of my life. I'm the oldest sibling in my family, and my little brothers as well as my mom are constantly coming to me asking how to use the new iPhone software, how to run this software on their Mac books, etc. I like to think of myself as someone who as an average understanding of technology and its functions. However, if I am clueless about what to do on my computer or phone or any other technology, I immediately call my dad. My dad knows absolutely everything about technology considering he uses so much of it for his job. With all of that being sad, technology is still a very big part of my life, and without it not only would school work be harder to complete, but it would be harder for me to socialize and meet new people as well.
I hope to learn a lot of important things in this class that apply to my major. I want to become the best teacher that I can possibly be, and technology is a very powerful, important asset that can and will help me achieve my overall goal.Technology is a way to interact with students in the classroom, which when I become a teacher is something that is very important to me. I also want to become tech savvy, and teach my future students creative and new ways to work on group projects or individual assignments. In addition to that I also want to learn more about technology, and learn how to become more creative and take full advantage of everything that technology has to offer for teachers.
My own learning style believe it or not is actually a great representation of who I am not only as a student but as a person as well. First, I am a mix of an active and reflective learner. Before I take action, I always stop for a moment and think about what it is exactly that i am setting out to do. Secondly, I am 100% a sensing learner. I love to learn facts and I find facts as one of the easiest ways to learn material or information. In addition, I also tend to love visuals. Whenever facts or information fails me, I can look at a diagram, graph, or chart and I will be able to understand what I previously found confusing. Lastly and most importantly, I am a sequential learner. I need to learn things step by step in order for me to fully understand a curriculum, I struggle when people teach me things out of order. All of these learning styles were highlighted in my results from the questionnaire that I took.
